Galah
(Eolophus roseicapilla roseicapilla) (aka Cacatua roseicapilla)
The word “galah” has come to mean a “loud-mouthed idiot” in Australia, thanks to this parrot’s noisy and playful antics. Also known as the Rose-breasted Cockatoo, the Galah is the most widespread Australian parrots.
I photographed this particular male Galah on top of one of the famous Pinnacles in Nambung National Park in Western Australia (see below.) How do I know it’s a male? The sexes look identical except for their eye color. The males have dark brown eyes (as you can see in the photo above) and the females have reddish pink eyes!
